2014 Youth National Championships

OKC RIVERSPORT Junior Women Win National Rowing Championship
Team wins lightweight women’s four at USRowing Youth National Championships in California

Oklahoma City – June 17 OKC RIVERSPORT Chesapeake Junior Crew raced in four events and won a national championship at the USRowing Youth National Championship, June 13-15 at Lake Natoma, California. OKC raced in the women’s lightweight four, the women’s eight, the men’s eight and the men’s lightweight eight. All events were contested on a 2,000-meter race course, which is the Olympic sprint distance for the sport of rowing.

OKC won the women’s lightweight four event, crossing the finish line in a time of 7:57.9 to beat the two-time defending champions from Manhasset High School in New York who took second in a time of 7:59.3. Third place went to Long Beach Juniors from California who finished in 8:08.5.

The women’s eight from OKC finished fourth with a time of 7:14.3. Oakland Strokes from California took first in a time 7:03.8. The crew from Connecticut Boat Club in Connecticut was second in 7:10.4. Sarasota Crew from Florida finished third with 7:12.5.

On the men’s side, the men’s lightweight eight improved upon their 12th place finish from 2013 to an eighth place finish this year with a time of 6:42.2. The men’s eight finished 18th just four seconds behind their rivals Jesuit Prep of Dallas
