Athlete Incentives

Training Site Facilities.  The USRowing National High Performance Center (NHPC) in Oklahoma City includes training facilities and equipment that are among the best in the world. Headquartered in the Devon Boathouse on the Oklahoma River, this $10 million, 33,000 sq/ft facility houses a fleet of world-class racing shells, and also features the world’s first dynamic rowing tank, a high altitude room for training up to 12,000 ft, Wattbikes, RowPerfects, an indoor propulsion swim pool, a wide variety of cross training equipment, and state-of-the-art strength and conditioning equipment.

Residency. The residency program at the National High Performance Center assists senior athletes in their transition from collegiate to elite rowing. As a member of the high performance program, qualified athletes are offered subsidized housing. Residential athletes have basic medical coverage and injury rehabilitation through our partnership with Mercy Hospital of Oklahoma City.

Training Table. To help ensure the nutritional needs of our athletes are met, the National High Performance Center has partnered with Mercy Hospital. Mercy provides anywhere between six and 35 athletes with five healthy meals a week during the year. The meals are delivered hot to the boathouse so that the athletes are able to take advantage of this service right after training sessions.

“The nutritional and dietary support provided by Mercy is a critical feature for these athletes to train and compete at the highest level of international competition,” said Cameron Kiosoglous, head coach for the 2016 U.S. Men’s Lightweight Four rowing team. “It is an invaluable resource to have.”

Job Placement Assistance. Elite athletes’ priority is to focus on their sport career, but we recognize that there comes a point in life when individuals need to make decisions about their post-athletic careers and their future. As a U.S. Olympic Training Site, the NHPC is able to work with Adecco Staffing to help our Olympians, Paralympians, and Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls by alleviating career or job-related concerns, which will allow athletes to perform better while training and competing. Other job opportunities through our strong community ties are also available.

Physio Lab. The NHPC is partnered with the Department of Exercise and Sport Science at Oklahoma City University for physiological testing and monitoring, including body composition, VO2max, and Lactate Threshold.

Competition Support. Qualifying athletes may also receive additional sponsorship to cover both domestic and international travel for camps and regattas and additional support as needed.
