Volunteering is a great way to meet new people and get involved in all the exciting activities at the Oklahoma River!
We are always looking for volunteers to help with Oklahoma River race events, assist with Boathouse District hospitality or mentor youth in our programs.

2014 ICF Canoe Marathon World Championships and Pan Am Championships
Athletes from more than 30 countries will be traveling to Oklahoma City in September for the 2014 ICF Canoe Marathon World Championships, World Cup and Pan Am Championship. Whenever athletes make their way to OKC, they always comment on our exceptionally friendly and enthusiastic volunteers. Let’s show the world just how welcoming Oklahomans truly are! Volunteer registration will open soon. Contact us by email for more information.
SandRidge Energy generously sponsors the OKC RIVERSPORT SandRidge Youth Rowing League, an outreach program that offers rowing opportunities for both high school and middle school students. We are looking for volunteers to assist with coaching and/or mentoring students. Practices are held weekly at various times.
BOATHOUSE DISTRICT AMBASSADORS
We have an ever-increasing number of visitors to the Boathouse District and are developing a new “Boathouse District Ambassadors” program to help recruit and train volunteers who can give tours and answer questions. We are launching the new program in 2014 and are looking for a core group of organized and enthusiastic volunteers to help us develop this new initiative. If you’re excited about the Oklahoma River, we want to hear from you!
Do you speak Lithuanian? German? Spanish? International races bring athletes to Oklahoma City, and from time to time we need translators. If you speak a foreign language and would be willing to help, let us know.
PARA ATHLETE SUPPORT
Our adaptive rowing and paddling programs provide opportunities for people with disabilities to experience getting on the water. Volunteers help move equipment, transfer athletes, or paddle alongside participants offering encouragement.
Several families in the metro have had the pleasure of hosting visiting athletes in their homes during training camps and/or races. Let us know if you’re interested in learning more about this unique opportunity.
REGATTAS & RACES
Oklahoma River festivals and races depend on hundreds of volunteers each year. Shifts are usually four hours. Whether you have experience on the water or you’ve never been in a boat, we have a place for you!
HOSPITALITY & INFORMATION
Several volunteer opportunities exist both indoors and outside including working in athlete registration, posting results, answering questions in our information booth, or assisting in VIP or officials areas.
GOLF CART & TRAM DRIVERS
Can you drive a golf cart? Put your experience to work driving the tram back and forth to the parking areas, or assist with delivering supplies around the venue.
If you enjoy working with kids, help us staff our inflatables area to ensure safety and fun!
Work outside helping with life vests and assisting children in and out of kayaks. Training required.
STAKE BOAT HOLDERS
Ensure a fair start for each rowing shell by holding the boats in place on the starting dock!
If you’re into running, consider being a RUNDerground or Regatta Run volunteer. Events are in February and October.
If you have experience as a corporate league rower or paddler, you might be interested in some of our race-specific needs including working on the docks, in the control commission where boats are safety checked, as a launch driver or as an assistant to race officials.
DO YOU HAVE UNIQUE SKILLS TO SHARE?
If you have a special skill you’d like to share – you know about race timing, are a PR specialist, know how to weld or are an engine mechanic, for example – let us know. We may have an opportunity for you to get involved in your area of expertise.
